Booking your consultation
Our friendly reception staff will ask you what you are wishing to consult with Dr Knox about. This information will allow them to appropriately schedule your consultation date and time.
They will ask who your referring doctor is, and advise you of the cost of the consultation and any Medicare rebates that may be applicable.
If you are booking a cosmetic consultation our reception staff will ask for some additional details, and book a pre-screening assessment test. Due to new mandatory regulations, all patients coming to see Dr Knox require the pre-screening assessment. This is conducted via phone interview and takes around 15 minutes. This gives us a better idea of what your goals, concerns and desired outcomes are.
Our staff will provide you with any additional information you need to be able to prepare for your consultation, including sending a reminder a week prior to your consultation.
Please bring the following to your consultation:
Referral
Medicare Card
Private Health Insurance Card
Medication List
Histopathology Result
Xray / Ultrasound / Mammogram / CT / MRI Results
Referrals
We require a referral from your GP or specialist dated prior to or the day of your scheduled consultation.
If you are attending our practice for a cosmetic consultation, you will be unable to see Dr Knox without a valid referral. A referral from a GP is valid for 12 months, and a specialist referral is valid for 3 months from the date of your first consultation for this concern.
In accordance with Medicare regulations, if you attend our practice for a new concern, we will need a new referral, even if you have another one on file that is still valid.
Procedure Information
Dr Knox will advise whether your procedure would be best as an outpatient or day surgery/inpatient.
Our reception staff will then be able to offer you appropriate dates and times for your procedure. You will be provided with the estimate of fees and your paperwork to make the arrangements for your procedure.
DAY SURGERY/INPATIENT PROCEDURES
Day surgery/inpatient procedures are performed in hospital.
This means you will have the option to have a general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation.
Dr Knox will advise how long your hospital stay will likely need to be.
Medicare and private health insurance rebates may be applicable.
Dr Knox will discuss the following with you:
Urgency
Hospital
Length of procedure
Length of stay
Pre-operative tests required
Medicare item numbers (if applicable)
OUTPATIENT PROCEDURES
Outpatient procedures are undertaken in the practice procedure room.
You will be asked to arrive early, before the procedure starts. This is for the local anaesthetic to be administered.
You can eat and drink as normal and drive to and from your procedure unless advised otherwise.
Medicare rebates may be applicable.
Estimate of Fees
As part of making the arrangements for your procedure our reception staff will provide you with an estimate of fees.
DAY SURGERY/INPATIENT PROCEDURE
The fees that are applicable to your procedure will be listed in the estimate of fees for your day surgery/inpatient procedure. You can anticipate the following:
Surgical Fee: This is the fee for Dr Adrian Knox’s services.
If there is a Medicare item number listed, we recommend you check whether this is included in your private health insurance policy as this will determine other fees that are applicable.
Surgical assistant: This is the fee for the surgical assistant who will be in attendance at your procedure.
Prosthesis: A prosthesis is when an item is inserted into the body; for example, breast implants.
Post operative garments: These are usually compression garments that assist with the post operative recovery.
Anaesthetic fee: Dr Knox has regular specialist anaesthetists who tend to his operating lists. We provide an estimate of fees to assist you in preparing financially. However, these are non-binding, and their practice will contact you directly in relation to their fees and estimated rebates.
Private hospital: Fees for the hospital may be on the estimate of fees if:
there is an excess to pay to the hospital
the Medicare item number provided is not included in your private health insurance
there is no Medicare item number applicable to your procedure. This means the procedure is purely cosmetic.
The latter two mean the hospital cannot cover your bill with private health insurance and therefore the patient incurs the charges.
Once your procedure has been completed and any pathology results have been received, we will submit your payment electronically to Medicare and your private health insurance provider. The rebate for each will go into the account you have nominated.
OUTPATIENT PROCEDURES
The fees that are applicable to your procedure will be listed in the estimate of fees for your outpatient procedure. You can anticipate the following:
Surgical fee: This is the fee for Dr Adrian Knox’s services. If there is a Medicare item number listed, you can expect to see an estimated Medicare rebate.
Once your procedure has been completed and any pathology results have been received, we will submit your payment electronically to Medicare. Any rebate you are due will go into the account you have nominated.
